The Power of a Flower

I just called to say…..’I love you!’ – Stevie Wonder

Whenever He was in town, Jesus would stop by the home of Mary, Martha, and Lazarus. Hmm!

Roses, carnations, daisies, daffodils, tulips, poppies! Have you ever stopped to wonder why our wise God created flowers? It’s the same reason we send them to one another. Simply to say ‘I love you!’ He broadcasts this message every day. Just look around. Flowers bloom in backyards, front yards, in slum towns, in ritzy neighborhoods, in desert areas, in Communist countries, in free countries, all over the world. One does not have to be well-educated, or highly paid to have flowers grow in their yards – they just grow because of our Great God. Every color and shape, with a fragrant inviting aroma. The world around us can sometimes be a daunting, hurting, hateful place. I think God painted it with flowers just to remind us how much we are loved. So if you can’t get enough hugs today, just ‘consider the lilies of the field….'

Until tomorrow…

Blooming Right Where You Are

Brighten the corner where YOU are! - Song refrain

His brother Peter got more print and notice, but Andrew had great impact as well. AMEN!

We live in a culture/society where it's all about ME! I take "center stage." Shine the spotlight on MY deeds of greatness, follow MY life on social media, or hear about MY vast amount of need and right to exist. But what if it really isn't about YOU! The poet Thomas Gray wrote "full many a flower is born to blush unseen and waste its sweetness in the desert air." It means some flowers are never seen - they never make it into the floral bouquet, table centerpiece, hospital room, secretary's desk, or wives hands. They grow in some distant, dark place, but yet they grow and bloom and give beauty to that place. You may not ever write a book, preach a sermon, sing a solo, or stand in front of a crowd, but you can still bloom for God just by SERVING where you are with what you have. Shine On!

Until tomorrow...

Sweet Sovereign Silence

See how nature – trees, flowers, grass – all grow in silence. See the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence. God is the friend of silence. – Mother Teresa
John tells us in Revelation that when they opened the ‘seventh seal’ there was complete silence in heaven. For an extended period. WOW!
Blaring horns or alarms, phones, TV, radio, gospel music, etc. – this is what most of us continuously go through the day with, often intentionally. We live in the era of continuous communication or input. We are saturated with noise. We rarely take time to listen to or even see God. There are too many things to be done in the limited time we have available. But we must not allow the clock or the calendar to blind us to the fact that each moment of life is a miracle and mystery, full of God’s presence. Instead of powering up each day maybe we should look at it from the other perspective of ‘opening up’ to God. Silence gives Him a great opportunity to speak, and us a better opportunity to think clearly.
Until tomorrow…..
