HOW Did We Get Here?

After Saul met Christ on the Damascus Road, he had three days in ‘darkness’ to review his life’s journey. Hmm!

It’s a given that life has its ups and downs. But God is not always testing us with trials, nor is Satan always responsible for our ills. Sometimes it’s just our own ingenuity that lands us in a place or situation we’d rather not be. Now the good thing is we serve a God who can bring good out of any situation or circumstance, however; often before He responds He expects us to reflect on where WE went wrong, why WE went wrong, and how WE can prevent it from occurring again. Holding fast to and practicing His Word will keep us from many holes, ditches, and pits that are completely unnecessary in life. So, unless we just like digging maybe it’s time we took a look in the mirror.

Sweet Fragrant Memories

Paul often said the visits and gifts he received from others refreshed his spirit. Amen!

We all have them. Those fond memories of certain smells that take us back to warm happy places and times. Whether it was the candy store or the movie theater popcorn, or mom's holiday fare, or just the morning coffee brewing. It's just simply amazing how such an aroma can cause such a positive jolt to our attitude and well-being. Knowing this is a creative design feature of our loving God, shouldn't it be then no matter how hectic, stressful, or anxiety filled our days are with the cares and goings on in the world; that it be just somewhat of a small blip on the radar or our attitudes? Shouldn't just a quick whiff/sight/thought of God's goodness jolt us back to His presence. Throughout the day He gives us many different sights/sounds/touches to remind us He's near. AND if it's true we are a 'sweet smelling aroma' to others then surely we should be attracting some to ourselves as well for refreshment. If it seems your everyday lot is heavy to bear and dark with no light maybe it might be time to invest in some different "smelling' salts.

Enjoying Today

Some people are making such thorough preparation for rainy days that they aren’t enjoying today’s sunshine. – W. Feather

Martha was so busy making preparations for Jesus’ visit to their home, she never really got an opportunity to visit with him when he came. OUCH!

Though the calendar on the wall or in our pocket may show a 7-day weekly period, or 30-day month, today is all we have. All the other days have either disappeared into oblivion or darkness, or not yet emerged from it. It is wise to plan for the future ahead of us but never at the expense of sucking all the joy out of right now. We cannot fully experience or praise God unless we take time out to enjoy Him and His creation right now. The ability to ‘earn our keep’ by the work we do is a grand opportunity to experience God working through us. Rainy days or hardships may come or may already be upon us, but nevertheless, today is still all we have. If we live by the Spirit we will find opportunity to enjoy what God is doing right now and give Him praise.

Make the Difference

Being different isn’t the same as making a difference. – Sparks

The Christians at Corinth were arguing over which group was better because of who brought them to the faith (Apollos, Cephas, Paul, etc.) Paul reminded them it was Jesus who made the difference. Hmm!

We live in a society that embraces individuality. It teaches people to make a name and identity for themselves. And we often do strange things to make ourselves distinct and different from others that we may display our individuality, but we’re actually called on not to attract attention FROM society but to make a difference IN society. Our faith pronouncement is not to just stand out but to STAND UP! We’re called to stand up for righteousness and truth, to get involved when they are threatened, and promote ways to better this world. Yes, it’s a major task but that’s why God picked us, there were none better available to do it.
