The Greatest Tool for Bridging a Gap

No matter how empty your pockets, purse, mattress, or bank account; everyone can afford to give away a smile. – Anon

Jesus was referred to by many as a friend of man, not for what He could physically do for them through the power of miracles, but because He treated them all with the “respect” of being God’s creation. Hmm!

It’s true oftentimes we are battered, torn, bruised, and worn down by the trials and cares of life; barely able to lift our heads, let alone be joyful and glad. But even in those moments God expects us to let the light of His love shine forth – to show our faith is real in spite of our circumstances. The best way God can truly reach out to other people is through us. And the greatest tool invented for bridging that gap is a smile. Not only will it reach across the room, it will also reach into other folks heart as well our own, and that is where God resides.

Say Cheese!

If you can't do anything else to help along, just smile. - E. Kirk

God's Word makes it abundantly clear that a 'cheerful heart' causes stress in the face which is called a smile. Hmm!

Smile! It's what we say to the person we're taking a picture of. Why, because no one really likes to see a picture of sadness or frowns. A cheerful face somehow seems to make others perk up. A smile indicates pleasure or a joy deep within. As Christ followers, knowing what God has already done for us and blessed us with should bring joy to our hearts and a smile on our face. AND knowing what lies ahead for us on the other side of this life should always spark that joy within and bring a smile. Yes, life might be tough right now; meager or no supplies, aching/diseased body, strained relationships with family or friends, but none of this is new, God delivered before, and has promised never to leave or forsake us. So all that is left is for us to just trust in Him, look up and SMILE!

Until Monday...

Heart Smiles

A smile is a curve that can set a lot of things straight. – Richard Murray

At the initial reunion, the Prodigal Father’s face told his son all he needed to know. AMEN!

True, the shortest distance between two points is a straight line; but the quickest way to set someone’s heart at ease is with a curve of the lips, or smile. It can change the tenor of a room, conversation, or even an individual. It’s amazing when you truly think about it, but God made us in such a way that when we smile truly from our heart, our whole body feels it. It costs nothing but gives so much; both to the one to whom it is given; and to the one who gives it, for you cannot give a smile without it warming your own heart. Life may have its ups and downs but never so much to where we can’t smile about it.

Cheer in the Face of it All

Smile – it makes folks wonder what you’re up to, and why. – Anon

Paul was so joyful in Christ governor Festus thought he was ‘insane.’ Anyhow, Christ was preached. AMEN!

Cheerfulness, or joy is a gift we can give to ourselves at any time. We’re never really at the need of others to cheer us up or lift our spirit. This is not to say we don’t need others in our lives or that their efforts to help are futile, but simply the attitude to be joyful or cheerful resides within us. And since God has promised to be with us at all times our hearts should always be rejoicing. For if God’s presence here doesn’t cheer us or bring us joy, then having all of heaven at our fingertips will not either since it is the ceaseless praise of God. Jesus took everything that happened to him in stride, even the cross, for the ‘joy set before him.’  Life is not always easy, rosy, or pain-free, but it is still a gift from God, and since He is with us in the midst of whatever we’re going through we can smile.

Until tomorrow….

Automatic Faith Lifter

The world’s best cosmetic and cure-all for what ails you are one and the same – A SMILE! – Anon
Upon their reunion, when Jacob saw the joy on his brother Esau’s face; he too was comforted. AMEN!
None of us would ever think to leave home unclothed. Nor would we neglect to take medicine we knew we needed to get well or maintain health. This is just good sense. Sometimes we need to apply this understanding to daily living. A smile given is a wonderful face and faith lifter, yet we sometimes dole them out as if we were getting charged for them. As our Heavenly Father has blessed us beyond measure and continues to do so, we have much to smile about. And as He works on us through the day, often there are some situations or circumstances that He puts upon us that we just have to laugh about, knowing He’s at His work. Smile!

Laugh a little

If you don’t have a sense of humor, you probably don’t have any sense at all. – Anon

When Abraham heard from God he was to have a son in his ‘ripe’ old age, he didn’t know what to do, so he just laughed. Hmm!

A smile! A light chuckle! A gut-busting laugh! Just a few ways we acknowledge some of the lighter things in life and how we cope. Life’s activities and circumstances are geared to elicit some sort of response from us, and it was God who gave us the ability to laugh, cry, be happy, or sad. To take everything so serious and never allow any humor in our lives is to invite much more stress and anxiety on us than necessary, and it will take its toll. In the toughest of circumstances, oftentimes, showing a sense of humor is showing our faith and trust in God, the One who knows everything. Today might require you to exercise this gift.
